Week 9

Due to different complications we were unable to launch on Sunday the 1st so a new launch date was set for Saturday the 7th. SInce everybody was ready to launch the previous week not much went on this week. The Solar team did a few ground tests, and some final tweaking was done with the payload to improve set up time on the day of the launch. There was also a meeting between the launch and payload teams Thursday to go over how the payload will be attached to the balloon, this way everybody was on the same page on Saturday.

The teams met Saturday morning at 6:30 and got everything loaded up into the cars. The launch site was near Mt. Horeb in a football field. There were a couple of minor setbacks during the set up of the balloon, but it was launched at 11:51. The teams then tracked the balloon until the eventual pop at 1:16 which was at an altitude of 87,962 feet. The balloon then proceeded to descend until 1:55 when it finally landed near Milton, WI. It went an approximate straight distance of 40 miles.

Over the next week we will be looking at the data received from the stamps and preparing the poster and final reports. Pictures taken during the launch are also available in the Photo Gallery tab.

Thanks,

Mike
